Long Island Iced Tea Article
Long Island Iced Tea
OK, I know this really isn't tea but I had to include it. After all, it is favorite for many people and it makes you feel soooo good. It's great on a warm Sunday afternoon with some friends over gathered around a microphone trying to sing karaoke at home. After a few of these you start to sound better and better. ;-)
It's a drink that dates back to the 70's, named after the USA's largest island, Long Island, in New York. Although it doesn't contain tea, its taste is similar. The drink sits in the top 5 of most popular cocktails and is regularly mentioned or seen served in television and films (worthy mentions are The Simpsons, Sex and the City and Cruel Intentions). Here is the recipe:
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Tequila
1 oz Rum
1 oz Gin
1 oz Triple sec
1 1/2 oz Sweet n Sour
1 splash Coca Cola
Mix ingredients in a shaker over ice a give one brisk shake. Pour over ice into a Collins glass and make sure there is a touch of fizz at the top. Garnish with lemon. Yield 2-3 drinks.
